The Moving Sale

I mentioned in the April 28th blog about a moving sale and I would tell ya more later, well here it is. On April 12th & 13th we had a large family moving sale. There was all the stuff that Gary and I were getting rid of and that was a lot, we filled up half of Bob's 2 car garage with all the stuff we had to sell. We would have even had a lot more but Andy took all our furniture and all my kitchen to his new apartment. Then there is Bob and Lorly's stuff, they are moving to Portland, OR as Bob has been offered a new position at the VA Hospital up on the hill at OHSU. Anyway, they are getting rid of a bunch of stuff as well, including 2 campers. Then there is Jason, he moved into a new apartment with Andy and had stuff to get rid of as well, a bunch of computer and technical stuff. We filled every spot possible, we had the drive way, front yard, side yard, side walk and the garage full, there was stuff every where, some people made comments that it was the biggest sale they had seen in a long time. The sun came up about 7 am and that's about the time the first person knocked on the door, from then on it was a constant huge crowd at any given time we had at least 15-20 people at the sale. You wouldn't believe the stuff that people were buying, they would buy anything. We think it was a combination of things, it was the first nice weekend of the year, it got to about 70 degrees, and people just wanted to get out and do something and the last thing the true and hard yard salers had not bought their quota of stuff for the year, it was their first big yard sale so they just bought and bought and bought, which was absolutely great! We had some boxes of stuff left which we hauled off to the local auction house and made a few more bucks off the junk!

Moving Sale

I had mentioned earlier that we had a moving sale with 3 of us, Gary and I had quite a bit of stuff for a yard sale and Bob is moving to Portland so he added his stuff, then Andy and Jason moved into a new apartment and Jason had some stuff to sell. It was quite a successful sale, everyone sold quite a bit and what we had left we sent to the auction and we made a couple more bucks. What I could believe is the junk that people bought, stuff you never thought would sell, I really think it was a combination of things that made it so successful. It was the first really nice weekend of the year, so people wanted to get out and do something, then there are those die hard yard sellers and this was the first big sale of the year and they hadn't bought their quota of crap for the year!

1st 3 weeks with Stan

On wednesday 23rd, Gary got assigned to a truck with a driver for 3 weeks of training out on the road. Gary is sending me a few pictures from the road, I am posting those as well. This is what we have been told happens after this first 3 weeks, Gary goes back to SLC for upgrade testing, what ever that is? Then he gets assigned to another driver and he spends 2 weeks out with him.

Now here is the awful part, Gary's recruiter left this part out, he has to drive 30 days solo before I can join him on the truck! Which means I have about 10 more weeks before I can be with Gary on the truck. This whole thing is way harder on us than we ever anticipated it would be. But the best part is when it is all over with we will have accomplished our goal and be out on the road together.

I hope that all of you will check back here once in awhile to find out the latest. I will keep this updated as things develop and when Gary sends me more pictures.

The beginning

By now most of you know about mine and Gary's newest adventure and chapter in our lives, if not here is the short version. Gary quit his job as a pit boss, then we went thru 20 some years of stuff, I didn't realize we were such pack rats! We rented a 10x10 storage unit and we didn't even fill it up with what we kept. A lot of stuff went to the DI (Deseret Industries), the dump and our boys, then we had a moving sale with the 3 of us (more later). We put our clothes and a few other things in our truck and gave up our house. Then my husband did the most wonderful thing, he took me to Hawaii for 6 beautiful days! Unfortunately the day after we got back Gary had to check into school in Salt Lake City, truck driving school for CR England, I had to leave Gary there, I do believe that is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.
Gary spent 2 weeks in school, studying and testing 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Two weeks to the day I left Gary in SLC I went back for a few days. Gary had already passed all his tests and got his CDL, they had an informal graduation which I was there to see and take pictures.
While he was in school he was able to get mail, I wanted to bombard him with as much mail as I could, I wrote him as much as 2-3 times a day, others wrote him as well. What I wanted to accomplish was for him to get tons of mail. On one day he got 13 letters and a few days later he got 16 letters in one day. They told him he definitely broke all the records for most mail received not to mention he must be loved by someone!
